Interim Dean Joel Martin

June 30, 2006

TO MEMBERS OF THE CAMPUS COMMUNITY

Dear Colleagues:

Today is Joel Martin's last day as Interim Dean of the College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences. I want to take this opportunity to thank him for his many contributions during this time. I especially want to recognize his initiatives to prepare and motivate first-year students, his progressive and collaborative team approach to management, and his leadership in partnering with the City of Riverside, Native American Tribes, the Gluck Foundation and so many others in the development of UCR's Downtown Riverside Arts Block, the Center for California Native Nations and numerous other projects.

Joel will also be leaving his position as Professor in Religious Studies, History, and Rupert Costo Chair in American Indian Affairs to take the position of Dean of the College of Humanities and Fine Arts at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst. Please join me in wishing him the very best.

Sincerely,

France A. Cordova
Chancellor
