RIVERSIDE, CA—

The Department of Dance at the University of California, Riverside, presents UCR is Dancing 2005 on March 3, 4, and 5, Thursday through Saturday, at 8:00 P.M. in the University Theatre.  A matinee is scheduled for March 5, Saturday, at 2:00 P.M.

The annual Department of Dance performance, directed by Wendy Rogers, showcases original choreography by UCR students:  Valerie Cabag, Edana Garrett, Janae N. Heard, Kim Kolberg, Sara Licon, Pamela Mikkelsen, Tiffany Mirander, Paola Reyes, Ivonne Vielman, Esther Wu and Nicole Zimmerman.  The students have been investigating dance making from a variety of perspectives in five quarters of composition classes.  Each has chosen a direction to explore and develop into a piece for premiere in this year's production.  The results are as varied as the artists:  dynamic explorations of rhythm, a construction of chaos, masked intrigue, the story of a loner, the comedic interactions between two characters, and more.  The program will also preview an excerpt, choreographed by Dance faculty member Susan Rose, from the Gluck Contemporary Dance Touring Ensemble's
new program.
