Economics Professor David Fairris Appointed Associate Dean for Student Academic Affairs

Professor
David Fairris of the Economics Department was appointed
Associate Dean for Student Academic Affairs in the
College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences
(CHASS) on July 1, 2004. Professor Fairris will
oversee a staff of eight individuals in the Student
Academic Affairs office whose responsibilities include
academic advising, tracking student records and
progress, as well as other duties.
Regarding his new position and future responsibilities, Professor Fairris stated that he is “honored to be entrusted with this administrative post in CHASS.” Fairris will also manage evaluations of the Freshman Discovery program and other CHASS-specific programs like CHASS Connect. In addition, he plans to work towards significantly refining the College’s student retention and graduation rates. Professor Fairris has previously served as Chair of the Undergraduate Affairs Committee in the Department of Economics and has resided here at UCR for 15 years. He received his B.A. in Economics from Washington University and his Ph.D. in Economics from Duke University. Fairris has been the recipient of numerous awards in his field including several fellowships. He has published numerous articles in academic journals and a book.
