The interests of prospective graduate students
act as a top priority in the College of Humanities,
Arts, and Social Sciences, and eagerly provides
assistance to facilitate the application process.
CHASS is the fastest-growing college on the campus
and the home of sixteen graduate programs with
many sub-disciplinary tracks. CHASS prides itself
on its faculty and staff commitment to graduate
education and research. In the 2002-2003 academic
year, CHASS granted 42 Ph.D.’s, 74 Masters,
and 1 MFA totaling 117 graduate conferred degrees.
Among the College's outstanding facilities are a new Arts complex and the Humanities and Social Science building. In the planning and design stages are buildings that will house interdisciplinary departments and centers and psychology instructional and research spaces. The Barbara and Art Culver Center for the Arts, to be located in a restored historic downtown Riverside building adjacent to the UCR/California Museum of Photography, will expand the campus's reach into the Riverside community with performance, exhibition, and creative spaces.
Prospective students interested in any of the graduate programs offered at CHASS and feel that their interests are reflected in the Department's curriculum are encouraged to complete the Preliminary Information featured on each of the graduate programs respective web-sites. The Preliminary Information is designed to aid prospective students by addressing their academic needs, interests, and questions prior to prior to submission of the official graduate school application.
Preliminary Information goes directly and only to the desired department. Following completion, faculty will evaluate applicant interests and qualifications. This allows faculty to forge early communication with prospective students. If you are ready to apply, please complete the official UCR Graduate School Application. This is the application that serves as the "official" application to your interested graduate program. The UCR Graduate Division provides more information about the official application procedures.
