What honors and prizes are awarded to faculty?

Academic Senate Research Funds are available through the Academic Senate. Specific guidelines regarding award processes and grant amounts can be found at http://senate.ucr.edu/omnibus/2003-2004/Default.htm.

Regents Lecturers and Professorships - In order to bring to the University distinguished individuals, ordinarily from non-academic fields, which through their contact with students and faculty may add to and enrich university life; The Regents of the University of California have established the titles of Regents’ Professor and Regents’ Lecturer. A Regents’ Professor serves for a semester/quarter or an academic year at the University of California upon the invitation of the President of the University and with the approval of the Board of Regents. The Regents’ Professor’s achievements in agriculture, banking, commerce, engineering, industry, labor, law, medicine, or any other nonacademic field in the arts, sciences, or professions are equivalent to those on which appointments to regular University professorships are based. A Regents’ Lecturer serves for a relatively short period of time at the University of California upon the invitation of the Chancellor. The Regents’ Lecturer’s achievements in agriculture, banking, commerce, engineering, industry, labor, law, medicine, or any other nonacademic field in the arts, sciences, or professions are equivalent to those on which appointments to regular University Lectureships are based.

  1. Regents’ Faculty Fellowships

    Eligibility: All Assistant Professors, Acting Assistant Professors, Assistant Agronomists and Acting Assistant Agronomists

    University Opportunity Funds have for some years provided a program “to afford selected junior faculty an opportunity for educational enrichment through significant research, advanced or independent study, or improvement of teaching effectiveness.” Funds may be used for summer salary (for faculty paid on an academic year basis), research assistance, research-related travel, supplies, and equipment. Funds may also be used to supplement a partial-salary sabbatical leave. The size of the awards will depend on the number of applicants and the nature of the proposals submitted.

  2. Faculty Development Awards

    Eligibility: Assistant Professors and Assistant Agronomists who are approaching consideration for advancement to tenure.

    Funding has been provided by the Office of the President for a program for deserving Assistant Professors and Assistant Agronomists who are approaching tenure. Funds may be used for summer research stipends, sabbatical supplement (up to 33% for one or two quarters for sabbatical leave), equipment, research assistance, research-related travel, and support for attendance and participation in professional meetings. The size of the awards will depend on the number of applicants and the nature of the proposals submitted.

The Center for Ideas and Society Resident Fellowship Program promotes multidisciplinary humanistic scholarship by assembling a group of scholars from several disciplines to examine areas of common interest. Fellowships offer a one-quarter course release and residency at the Center with individual offices for fellows and administrative assistance plus a small fund available to each residency group to support their research projects.
