The New CHASS Interdisciplinary Building

 

The construction for the new Interdisciplinary Building has been completed for Winter 2008. The building will house the following CHASS departments: the Creative Writing (4th floor), Ethnic Studies (4th floor), Religious Studies (3rd floor), Media and Cultural Studies (3rd floor), Interdisciplinary Studies (3rd floor), Theatre (2nd floor), Women's Studies (2nd floor). The first floor and portion of 2nd floor are for general classrooms. CHASS accounts for nearly two-thirds of UCR's total student population, and the new facility will help accommodate this increased growth. The 17, 045 assignable square foot of the new development will be set aside for general classrooms, as well as roughly 30,000 for instructional/lab space, 19,139 for faculty, TA and lecturer offices, and 4,000 assignable square foot for administrative offices.

It is the home for Theatre, Women's Studies, Creative Writing, Ethnic Studies, Media and Cultual Studies and Religious Studies departments. It also houses Interdisciplinary Programs which includes Global Studies, Labor Studies, Southeast Asia: Texts, Rituals, Performance Initiative (SEATRiP), Public Policy, Asian Studies, Liberal Studies, Interdisciplinary Studies, Latin American Studies, and Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences The California Center for Native American is in the 3rd floor. The Media Library is in Room 2117.
