Ann Kaneko, a Los Angeles-based filmmaker and artist, received a Fulbright Fellowship to make Against the Grain: An Artist's Survival Guide to Peru. The documentary asks if freedom of expression is a right or a privilege. The film highlights the passion and commitment of pioneering artists who resist censorship during the repressive regime of Alberto Fujimori.
The Screening and visit by Ann Kaneko are generously co-sponsored by the Latin American Studies Program, the Music Department, the Media and Cultural Studies Department, the Art History Department, the UCR Program on Global Studies (IGCC) and Latin American Student Association (LASA) at UCR.
